Kubuqi Desert…WOW!

Hello again, and welcome to another excuse to delay the release of my monthly newsletter, the Kubuqi desert. Reportedly the 9th largest desert in the world and from the trip I just experienced, those other 8 must be astonishing because this place was breathtaking!

A week ago to the day I left with a group of hikers from Jiujiang to Baotou, a city in inner-Mongolia that borders the eastern fringe of the desert. It was a two day journey which became an experience in it’s own right. On Wednesday morning, the1st of October, our group along with a number of other groups loaded our packs onto the truck and loaded the bus for the trailhead. All together there were close to 100 hikers registered to make the 3 day trek across the desert.
Seeing the sea string of colorfully blended rain-covers and backpacks was a thrill as we set off for the 46km/28 mile trek. I’ll fill you in on all the details later in a full story I will have published later this month.
In the mean time, look for a soon-to-come update to the photo albums and the second part of the Thailand story: Pattaya. Don’t worry, it will all be in the newsletter…which may become a book before I get it sent out to you.
Till next time… See ya!
