2009: Year of the Ox
Tomorrow is the lunar new year’s eve, otherwise known as the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. More accurately the week long celebration beginning tomorrow is known as Spring Festival, but tomorrow night specifically is New Year’s eve. The year of the Mouse comes to a close and we welcome the year of the Ox.
The new year festival is the height of firework season here and people are flocking in groves to the firework and ornament stands sprinkled around the city to buy their decorations and attractions. I spoke with one stand owner about the cost of fireworks. Depending on the size, you can spend as little as 18RMB or as much as 260RMB for one firework. For that 260 you may want to have a car or small cart to transport your goodies.
