Believe this…Jiujiang has TWO McDonald’s now! TWO!

Recently Jiujiang embedded itself more into the international map by opening its first Walmart. I was out of town at the time of the grand opening on January 15th, however, I have since made up for that by returning not once but twice just to have a look around.
Unlike Walmart’s in the US, here they have constructed a three story super center of which the top two floors make up the Walmart store itself. The upper most floor for domestic related goods and the second floor is a grocery store unlike anything you will ever see in the US. The first floor has been rented out as individual store space for private business owners ranging from high priced jewelry stores, to clothing shops for men and women, to miscellaneous nik-naks shops targeted toward teens. Oh! And what Walmart would be complete without a new McDonald’s restaurant? They have one of those in there also.
And just like back in the good ole U. S. of A. the buying power of this giant and its “one stop shopping” presentation is glitzy and glamorous now but I expect it’s going to cause a few feathers to get ruffled later as smaller businesses that this town is predominately built upon struggle to compete. I guess we’ll learn rather quickly how much customer loyalty there is in this town.
