More on the Spring Festival: 2009.

The Chinese new year celebrates the lunar new year and the end of winter according to the lunar calendar. Despite the cold temperatures and cloudy days, Spring is here for China. At least by one calendar, it is. Today the week long festivities come to a close and for most Chinese tomorrow life will return to everyday obligations. Some people will still be traveling and college students will not return to campus until the middle of February but stores will reopen and most people will be back in the cities they work in.

The Chinese new year is the height of fireworks season and something everyone here seems to have an affinity for is colorful fireworks and decorations. Across the cityscape at midnight there are a number of individual displays which, together, create a beautiful show of lights any pyrotechnics.
As an addendum to the last post from January, here are a few samples of the types of decorations and fireworks available for anyone to buy from the retail vendors for the Spring Festival.
